3 Understand the Suitability of Materials, Techniques and Processes
Line Art
You can tell this is line art by the simplicity of it, there's no real detail. I like this image because its creepy, the way the black lines coming out of its back look like tentacles until you get to the end where they drip like slime, the fact that it has no face obviously makes it creepier, and for some reason it has a child's teddy bear. there isn't much use of shading, which takes away most elements of light giving it a dirty look and making it more rough.
Digital Art
You can tell this is Digital Art by the detail and the colors, especially the colors it would be very hard to do that with pencil/pen.
I like the color, it looks great with the lighting effects and gives it a really futuristic look. I also like the huge robot the shadows and huge purple blades make it look really fierce. I'm not sure how the artist made some aspects of the image glow i can only assume there is some tool in the program he used which did it, or he just made everything around the blades lighter than everything else.
Own Choice
the colour and lighting really complement each other in this image, the way its arranged makes the dragon become a part of the background but also a dominant figure, I also the like the way the artist has drawn the right arm getting bigger towards the claw, it makes it look as though its coming out of the picture and gives it a 3D feel. Again the colour is really good the artist has kept it simple and only used 3 colours but they really help you distinguish between the soft underbelly of the dragon and the hard scales with the red jewel on its chest.
Banksy research:
This is a piece of Banksy's work, i chose this image because i though it was quite ironic, i think it was probably rather simple to make this image, he probably just sprayed the lettering on and used a stencil for the rat but what i like th most is the red paw print next to the rat and the red paint on its paw making it look like the rat did it.
David Carson Research:
David Carson was born on September 8 1954 he is an American graphics designer who is best know for his work in magazines and his experimental use of typography. David Carson's first actual contact with graphic design was made in 1980 at the University of Arizona on a two week graphics course, taught by Jackson Boelts. He attended San Diego State University as well as Oregon College of Commercial Art. He Became Know for his inventive Graphics in the late 1990s. He also art directed various music, skateboarding and surfing magazine through the 1980s/90s
This is a piece of david carsons work, and i think its amazing, the way he's created a face from words, the different font size and colour to create shading and the areas with nothing but black gives it alot of depth it really is incredible.
This is another piece of david carson's work, i really love the way he's made it look really meaningful yet kept it so simple. The same message scribbled over and over in smaller writing is used as a background and then the same message is enlarged and thrown over the top, its like obvious sumbliminal messaging its great.
Animation Research:
Ed Skudder: Ed Skudder is an animator i found on youtube, his most popular animation is called DickFigures, its a series where two friends, Red and Blue get in to all kinds of trouble. There's not much information on him but i did some searching on the internet and found out that someone had been advertising some of his work, and it seems hes gotten offers from at least 3 different animation labels (unfortunately i don't know the name of these labels).
This is a screen rip from one of Ed Skudders animations Zombies and Shotguns, though the art work is really simplistic he has made the the actual animation really smooth, the voice overs and sound samples are accuratley placed, the way the stick men move is really realistic and the actual storyline is really funny and entertaining. He does his animation frame by frame instead of using onion skin which requires alot of knowledge about flash, with the different coding and tweens.
Patterns and Textures Research (LO3)
This is the first Website i came across that had any kind of pattern, that's pretty much the only reason i chose it, and to be honest i don't think its very good, its just a bunch of dots lined up and a couple of different colours thrown in, its quite basic and could be a lot better. Its only redeeming quality is that it appears to be linked to the logo (same colours) so i can only assume that's why they used it.
Though the actual design for the background is simple, it looks good, the texture looks real and so does the shadowing. Though it appears that the background has no promotion value for anything on the website, its just there for visual effects.
